Every year, millions of people around the world have been observing March 28 as Earth hour day. On that day, iconic structures and millions of households have been turning off their lights for an hour to show their love towards the planet. Last year on Earth Hour 180 countries took part in switching their lights off. This day was first started by WWF in 2007 and now has become a global event.
According to PHCB 2017 there are 163,001 households in Bhutan and each household on an average uses about 512.6 watts of energy every hour. Also according to www.independant.co.uk there are 1.2 billion households in this world and each household on an average uses about 399.5 watts of energy per hour.
Despite our differences and culture, climate change is everyone’s enemy. Which is why it is everyone’s responsibility to make this Earth a beautiful place to live in, not just for us but for every living being on this planet. Let us pave our way through the age of humans and start an era were humans and nature will have a mutual relationship.
This year, join millions of us around the world to show your love towards the planet. Turn off your lights, put away your phones and gadgets and light some candles for an hour. Show us that you also care about this mother earth. Amidst all the crisis happening around the world with the pandemic Covid-19, there are many ways to celebrate Earth Hour without having to go out. Check out the Earth Hour website for suggestions on how you can celebrate Earth Hour digitally.
We the Youth for Environment team intend on reaching out to as many people as we can and persuade them to turn off their lights. Be your own ambassador and share it with your friends and family.
As the saying goes,” United we stand, divided we fall.” Together we can achieve anything. Please do drop me what you did in the comments section.
Let’s do our part please.
