An Insight on the Education System of Bhutan

Frederick J. Kelly, the man who invented standardized test once said, " These tests are too crude to be used, and should be abandoned"

Prince ea, "While students may be only 20% of our population right now, but they are 100% of our future"

I don't want to conclude on anything but as a doctor shouldn't prescribe the same medicine to every one of its patients, should a school make each one of their students learn the same thing?

In the future around 40% of jobs right now will be replaced by technology. And who will survive? People who are creative, innovative and who know how to learn on their own. But look at the situation right now, every student's "FUTURE" is determined by the marks they get on their tests.

In this 4th Industrial Revolution, knowing stuff or memorizing facts won't matter or wouldn't be relevant as we've got Google, Siri, YouTube etc. which can do that a million times better. But what matters is what you can do using that knowledge, how you can implement that into real life.

With all that said, I want to provide a few suggestions on how we can actually prepare our youths/students for the REAL FUTURE:

1. Project-Based Learning - Why not make them learn on their own by giving them projects? Let them find their answers to their own questions. Which will not only improve their problem-solving skills but they will learn how to learn.

2. let them choose what they want to learn - see, there is this stereotype in parents where, if their child plays video games, they are getting spoilt. But, did you know that most of the gamers around the world are millionaires? So, do not discourage them but encourage them more by supporting them and help them make a living through that because nothing is greater than your hobby getting paid. Similar to that every child will have a hobby of their own and to nurture and support that will be the responsibility of schools, teachers and parents.

If we can implement this, then only will we be preparing our youths for the FUTURE.
