Hike to Baylangdra: Appreciating Nature through Hikes – Sonam Rinchen

Hiking has been one of our family’s to-do-things since the corona virus situation began. On the auspicious day of the Drup Tshe Zhi, we decided to go to Bay Langdra, a sacred monastery located in Wangdi Dzongkhag.

We came upon several streams on our way. I was surprised by the cleanliness of the stream water. It was crystal clear. We could wash our hands directly out of it. I would probably say we could drink out of it as well.

While walking through the forest, we were amazed by the diverse biodiversity and its beauty. I couldn’t help taking photos. There were different types of birds, trees, plants and I also found a squirrel. Different birds had different feather colors which added more to its beauty. While taking photos, I saw a bird and a squirrel playing with each other. It was so funny as well as really cute. I stayed still for a while to get a good picture of the squirrel. I was so lucky that the squirrel glanced at the camera right on time. It made it look like the squirrel was actually posing for me.

After two hours of uphill climb, we finally reached our destination. As I looked down the mountain, the view was so beautiful! A wide village spread down below the mountain with its scattered houses and vegetable fields. Looking straight I could see endless mountain ranges, it looked as if it was overlapping with each other. Looking over the whole valley, I reflected on how beautiful nature looks when it is human-free. I learned to appreciate nature and its beauty.

I prayed that everyone get this opportunity to experience the beauty of the nature, breathe fresh air and listen to the sweet songs of chirping birds in all times to come. Let us all protect the nature for future generations too see it as a great place for Instagram photos.
